MortiSafe timer controlled key safe 2
This is a 2nd design for a time controlled key safe.
It differs from my previous design in that
it uses specific components which you can order over the web in UK,
whereas the previous one was trying to use generic parts.
The required components are:
- The safe, which is item 14818 from
Screwfix Direct for £27.99+postage etc
- The timer, which is item 289-4683 from
RS components, £41.40+VAT+postage etc.
There are other timers available, but that one is a fair compromise of flexibility
(it has a wide range of time settings, from under a second to over a year!),
lack of need for external electronics (it flips a relay when it activates),
voltage (it runs off batteries so no mains wiring required) and price
- Batteries, some wire and a few switches, a few £ in total
That's a total of around £80. I'm sure all these parts are available
in other countries.
If anyone's interested, I can write up the procedure for building it. It's reasonably
straightforward (needs about a dozen connections to be soldered
between wires and switches and connectors) - here is the
circuit diagram
although you need to see the timer datasheet to make sense of it.
